A hero Bernese mountain dog recently went viral on social media after saving his little sister from a nasty coyote attack.
In a post shared to TikTok in late February by user @bunsenbernerbmd, the pup, Bunsen, can be seen enjoying his owner's praise, as his golden retriever sister, Beaker, sits by him grateful for his brave act of courage.
"Our little golden was being chased by a coyote. she would have died. our gentle giant wasn't so gentle that day. Bunsen is our hero!" the video's text overlay reads.
Meanwhile, @bunsenbernerbmd told Newsweek that Bunsen "wouldn't hurt a fly, except when someone or something might hurt his family, and that when he turns from a gentle giant into a bear in seconds."

"In the clip I'm just showing how fun and gentle Bunsen is, because he is, he interacts with the public when we have done meet and greets at comic cons and science events and he loves puppies and babies," @bunsenbernerbmd said.
The owner explained that Beaker was a little puppy that always attacked Bunsen without mercy, but he loved her from the second he met her and always watched over her as a puppy, like a guardian brother.
So when he he saw the coyote posing a threat to her, Bunsen didn't think twice before getting involved, saving her life.
"Bunsen without pausing protected her and ran it off, perhaps hurting it and came trotting back like nothing happened," @bunsenbernerbmd said.
According to the Humane Society of the United States, although coyote attacks on humans are rare they may sometimes attack dogs, that's why if you live in an area where coyotes are present, they suggest keeping your dog on a leash no longer than 6 feet so the coyotes know your pet is not unattended.
The non-profit organization adds that small unattended dogs may be seen by the coyotes as potential prey. They may also attack bigger dogs if they feel that their territory is threatened by their presence.
